Assessments
Let's make sure we are on the right path to learning! To do so, I will assign different tasks/activities where you can show me what you know. There are three types of assessments: entry-level, formative, and summative. Read on to find out more about them!
- Entry-Level Assessment: What do I already know? This assessment audits knowledge at the beginning of a unit.
- Formative Assessment: What have I learned so far? This assessment checks learning throughout the lesson to make sure we are all on the right path.
- Summative Assessment: What did I learn? Through a specified activity, this assessment determines what you learned at the end of the unit.
Our assessments
- For our entry-level assessment, I will show you a short clip from "I Love Lucy" which mentions women's rights. Based on your reactions to the video, you will take a brief survey through Survey Monkey. Once we take the survey, there will be a class discussion to talk about our reactions/opinions/thoughts. The link to Survey Monkey is at the bottom of the page.
- During this unit, there will be four Formative assessments. The first formative assessment will be to go to the Quizlet page I will provide for you. This Quizlet provides digital flashcards for you to study with. You will review each study tool on there (FLASHCARDS, LEARN, SPELLER) and also play the games (SCATTER, SPACERACE). Please take these games seriously. They are indeed fun, but their intention is to help you learn and remember content. You will be turning in your scores from the games in order to receive credit. Lastly, you will take the TEST in class that Quizlet provides. Don't worry, it's more a quiz than it is an actual test! The second formative assessment will be a Jeopardy Game we will play together in class. It will include characters, key elements, and other information you must have reviewed in Quizlet. Points won during the game will be extra credit. The third formative assessment will be a quick-write in class in which you will answer a question pertaining to the Women's Suffrage Movement. The last formative assessment will be to create Popplets for characters in The Awakening to demonstrate your understanding of the importance these characters have in the novel. You can create a FREE Popplet account before working on this assignment. At the end of this page, you will find links to Quizlet and Popplet.
- To conclude this unit, you will participate in two Summative Assessments. The first summative assessment will be to write an essay that shows an understanding of this unit's BIG IDEAS. The second and last summative assessment will be a project in which you will create a final diary entry for Edna through her perspective. At the end of this page, I provided different prompts for your essay with instructions and the grading rubric. Make sure to download the document.
