webercise: WOmen in america
During this unit, we will be focusing on the various depictions of women in American Literature. As such, we need to build some background knowledge on women's traditional roles throughout American history.
You will be answering a series of questions by using the internet links I provided on your webercise. You will begin by exploring The Women's Press, where you will find information about women's life during the 18th Century in America. Then, you will navigate through The Interactive History Park, where you gain knowledge about women's roles during the 19th Century. Following that, you will read more about different aspects of women's history as presented by the Women's International Center. These three websites are to better help you understand the roles women have played throughout our history and how much those roles have changed. Since we are reading Kate Chopin's novel, The Awakening, you will also want to research important literary terms that will help you in your reading. Furthermore, you will complete two activities. The first activity will require you to choose a website relevant to women in the United States, listed on the National Archives. Once you choose a website, you will read the information it provides. Based on the information you read, you will create a poster illustrating three things you found interesting. BE CREATIVE! Last, but certainly not least, you will navigate through the National Women's Hall of Fame, which provides a list of important women in US History. Read through some of their biographies, then choose one woman you thought was most interesting or that caught your attention. You will create a talking character through Blabberize of the woman you choose, including important details from the biography. You will be presenting this to the class.
All of the websites that I have included in the webercise will also be listed under the Unit Resources page. I will discuss this assignment more extensively in class. Download the webercise, which you will find directly below.
